Want to start a CSA? After a season or two do you need some training or advice? This is a chance to discuss your project with seasoned CSA growers! The format will be 'Farmer-to-Farmer.' A panel of experienced CSA growers will make short presentations, with each grower offering insight into their 'take' on each topic. The needs of the participants will guide additional discussion. The Panel Jim Sluyter and Jo Meller, Five Springs Farm The farm grew from its humble beginnings in 1994 to its current modest size of 20 or so members. Other markets incude cut flowers and wholesale. We publish The Community Farm, a quarterly newsletter devoted to CSA. The farm and household has operated off the electric grid since 1988. Jen Tutlis and/or Jon Watts, Meadowlark Farm Jon and Jen have been living and farming together for 15 years. They live at Meadowlark Farm near Lake Leelanau with their two kids Ella and Eli and lots of chickens, cats and dogs. Their community includes many friends, family and neighbors as well as 150 local families who are a part of the Meadowlark CSA. Mike and Phyllis Wells, Wells Family Farm Mike and Phyllis began farming in 1983 with cherries and vegetables and gradually switched over to all vegetables, small fruits, and flowers. They started a CSA in 1992, adding flower shares in 2003. Presently Wells Family Farm is a 60 member CSA and participates in a weekly farmers' market. "We have made many mistakes which have lead to many successes."

Established in 1988, The Community Farm is the eighth CSA in North America and first in Michigan. Paul and Annie became the farmers for the Community Farm in 1992. This biodynamic farm emphasizes on-farm experiences for its members. It is organized according to the ‘classic’ CSA model as a member-owned farm.
