We hope that you are looking forward to yet another week's worth of culinary adventures with your meadowlark box. The colors today are scrumptious: salad mix, garlic, purple caribe potatoes, leeks, the firs of the French pickles called cornichon, zukes galore, tender lovely little carrots, green pepper, eggplant, tomatoes, green curly kale, broccoli and a little salsa pack that includes tomatilloes, cilantro and a jalapeno, raspberries for fruit shares.

Are you familiar with the little green tomato like creature called the tomatillo? If you've ever had a green salsa at a Mexican restaurant, chances are it is a tomatillo salsa. We give you just the right ingredients to make a batch for yourselves, the perfect dip for a hot day. Here's what to do: take the husks off the outside of the tomatilloes. Wash and place whole in a saucepan covered with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil. Cover and turn down heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes. LIft them out with a slotted spoon and put them into blender. Add 1/4 C well chopped cilantro (please wash first), 1 fresh jalapeno and puree until you have a coarse salsa. Add salt to taste. To work with fresh jalapeno, please be careful. The best idea is to wear rubber gloves and unless you really like it hot, get rid of the seeds which hold a lot of heat. Yum!

We would love to offer you the opportunity to purchase coffee from our friends at Higer Grounds Coffee Company. Chris and Jody Treter buy coffee from small farmers around the world who are growing their coffee organically and they in turn are offered a fair price for their hard work. You can order directly from Jodey and she will deliver the coffee to the farm for inclusion in your box next Tuesday. Orders are due by Thursday. You can order by the 1# and 5# in either regular medium roast, dark roast, or decaf. Price per pound is $7 for the regular and $8 for the decaf. Support this good work if you are a coffee drinker. This coffee is the best! Roasted right here in Leelanau County, you can call Jody at 877-825-2262 or email her at info@javaforjustice.com to place an order. We will put your coffee and an invoice in your box, you can then send a check to them.

Enjoy the box this week and stay cool... also, enjoy the latest installment of the "worker's voice" Love, the medowlarks
