Dear winter community of meadowlark, Another box of winter foods make their way to you, through snow and wind and more low temperatures. The hoophouse unthawed, but as we looked closely realized that there was more damage than we had at first thought. The plants are alive, but within the leaves are damaged and dead and a bit slimy. We decided it wasn't up to snuff; you'd be standing over your sink cleaning salad for hours. So we decided not to cut the lettuce. The salad greens were ok and the spinach fine. The braising greens were ok though we had to pick through and sort as we were cutting. Hopefully we will have one more round of greens for you, to include in the last of the winter shares. We also feel that we have to warn you about the winter squash. It too suffered the cold and you may see some translucence on some of the skins. We are actually not sure how long it will hold up, so it may actually like to be in a cold spot until you are absolutely ready to cook it. Let us know what you find.....such are the trials and tribulations of winter time food! Boxes today include: confection winter squash, sunshine winter squash, delicata, Nicola yellow potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic, carrots(the greenish tops let you know that they are still alive), beets, green cabbage, celery root,a big bag of mixed braising greens(including mustard, chinese cabbage, yukina savoy and tokyo bekana) plus a bag of mixed spinach and salad greens. Stay warm and take good care, Love to you from the meadowlarks
