Meadowlark Farm CSA News - November 16, 2007
 Dear meadowlark friends,

Now this is more like winter, eh?  A light sprinkling of snow covers all and we awaken early to stoke the wood fire in the granary to keep the boxes of veggies above freezing today.  It all rides a fine line once the weather turns toward cold, and we wait for the sun to crest the trees to see how the field greens fare.  The hoophouse on the other hand, is like walking through spring!  It is green and lush and so alive in there.  Remember, that space is unheated.  Magic, isn't it?  We have packed some ultra-big boxes today for you to accommodate the thanksgiving goods that are coming your way.  We hope that whatever you do(or don't do) to celebrate thanksgiving, that at least you will take a moment before a meal this week and give quiet thanks to every being(sentient and otherwise) that has brought daily food to your table.  Cultivate awareness!

Boxes today include: salad greens, lettuce mix(you can mix the two together, or use the greens to braise), a blend of kale, chard, collards and other greens to braise or steam, green cabbage, celery root, rutabaga, beets, carrots, onions, garlic, shallots, 2 delicata, 1 buttercup and 1 confection(the grayish one) winter squash, either Kennebec or Yukon gold potatoes(both awesome for mashing) and an herb pack that includes parsley, cutting celery, thyme, rosemary and sage.  Instead of the traditional green beans that many people favor for thanksgiving that are coming for where??? How about a cabbage and celery root gratin:

Have a wonderful sharing of food with your dear ones.  Next boxes will be NOVEMBER 30TH!!  Don't forget to order some Higher Grounds Coffee at jody@highergroundstrading.com.  Love, the meadowlarks
