Hello dear community of meadowlark, Today we bring to you the last of the summer 2007 season of veggies. Boxes today include: german butterball potatoes, onion, leeks, garlic, sunshine winter squash, delicata winter squash, a huge bunch of beets and greens, rainbow chard, kale and a spicy package that includes cutting celery that looks like parsley and rosemary. We are so grateful to you, for your continuing support of this idea, this family, this community of workers, this land and all that encompasses "this farm" we call meadowlark csa. Around us the concept of local and seasonal food has hit the mainstream. You can't pick up a magazine or newspaper without it being mentioned and in a way, this is heartening. We fully support the growth of a local food economy that is seated within a strong regional economy. You have decidedly "walked the talk" of local foods by purchasing a share in meadowlark and feeding your family seasonal, local food all summer. Your purchasing power, what you buy to feed your family, is a potent way to express yourself, your philosophies and ideals. On this note, we encourage you to take a look at your local shopping. Look at the produce section, and ask yourself if it reflects your feelings and ideas of what a local food economy looks like. Do you find local foods there, when they are in season? Are local farms' growing practices important to you? Is the label "certified organic" important to you, no matter where the label originates(certified organic tomatoes from Mexico last week at Oryana)? Do you think that choice is important? Do you buy "certified organic" peaches from California when local peaches are in season? Do you think about the miles that food travels before reaching your home or the carbon footprint that your choices make? Are you affected by pricing? Do you think it's a good idea to display similar produce from various local farms? Do you look at labeling and where foods are coming from? We think that it is high time to engage in this conversation and to share with one another our feelings and thoughts about the foods we choose to eat and why. We encourage you to think about this, reflect and compose. We know that Oryana is interested in what you have to say; they are collecting shopper's feedback and discussing your thoughts in manager meetings. Let your own voice be heard! Take a moment and fill out a comment sheet at the customer service desk on your way out and email jenny with comments at meadowlarks4@yahoo.com. Thanks for another great season of community and good food. Love, the meadowlarks
