Hello dear farm community, We returned late monday night from a wonderful camping adventure in Canada. We were in the Lake Superior Provincial Park for 3 days and it was a lovely time. It was the first real backpacking we have done as a family(longer than 1 mile that is) and it was a challenge and adventure for our kids. We hiked into Orphan Lake and had the beach to ourselves. The colors on the way up were a foreshadowing of what's to come here and we were soothed and satisfied by connecting to that Canadian Shield of rock again. We are fortunate that our farm crew is as giving and caring as they are, for we were able to leave the farm and all of our animals and hoophouse and fields in the care of our experienced crew. Thanks to them all! We have set the date for the last boxes of the summer 2007 season. The very last box for you Friday folk, will be Friday OCTOBER 19th. This will conclude 20 weeks of summer veggies. We will start with winter shares the first Friday in November, November 2nd. We still have a few spaces left for winter shares, so please contact jenny for more information at meadowlarks4@yahoo.com. Boxes today include: delicata winter squash, sunshine squash, onions, shallots, garlic, carrots, rainbow chard,a poblano pepper(dark green and shiny, not green peppers, they have a bit of smoky heat),sweet red pepper, heirloom tomatoes for all, cilantro, mcintosh apples for fruit shares. No salad mix today!!! A reminder too, the amish butcher shop is now open so if you'd like to order part of a pig or cow, please contact Tut at 929-2928 for the details of ordering meat for your freezer.
