Hello dear farm folk, We hope that you too are enjoying these first days of fall. Have you noticed the change of light? Morning brings spectacular sunrises that burst into all the shades of red, magenta, carnelian and beyond and then the sunsets are just as wild, all encompassing and vivid. The leaves change around us and the wheel spins itself into another turning of seasons. This shifting time mirrors itself in our bodies and spirits and it is best to take care of yourself and each other. Be patient with change, it is the only constant we can count on. Cook good foods for yourself and your family and it is not too late to stock your pantry with canned meadowlark tomatoes!!! We still have canners available if you want to make yourself a batch of sauce, salsa, oven-roasted deliciousness or just chop them up, put into Ziploc bags and freeze them if you're daunted by canning. Email jenny at meadowlarks4@yahoo.com for an order, half bushels are $15, full bushels are $30. We thank all of you who gathered at the farm for our annual harvest party. It was a gorgeous day and the food and company were amazing! We inherited some long folding tables from the Unitarians(thanks Jane and Price and the fellowship), and set up a big feast table a la Provence under the walnut trees. It really did look like a photo shoot from Martha Stewart or Gourmet magazine with all of the colors, flowers and lovely people enjoying good food together. We thank you all for your kind words and loving support. We are filled with your appreciation and it is this relationship that keeps us happily growing food. Thanks for the delicious food and great energy.... We will continue with boxes until FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19TH. This will be the last summer box for all. The winter shares start the first Friday in November, so we have a two week break to close down the gardens and button up for winter. We do still have a few spaces for winter shares(remember that sign up sheet that came in your box last week??), but they won't last long, so if you're interested, let me know. Boxes this week: salad mix, purple cabbage, delicata winter squash, leeks, onions, garlic, sweet red peppers, german butterball potatoes, carrots, cilantro(a new variety, finely cut leaves in waxed bag)tomatoes galore, gorgeous ripe grapes for fruit shares. We are still ordering coffee through Higher Grounds even though they've moved to TC. Contact Jody at jody@highergroundstrading.com. Have a lovely week and don't forget to order your canning tomatoes. We'll be planting garlic next week, so come give a hand if you'd like. Love, the meadowlarks
